I received a virtual reality headset as a Christmas present and having been on a rollercoaster ride that made me feel quite sick, I was looking for an app that involved a little bit less motion.
I discovered VR Death Simulator in the app store, created by 4 Fun Studio Inc. The reviews did not look very positive, but I thought perhaps the previous customers might not have been so interested in death as me!
I downloaded the app, which describes itself as a short experience about being in a car accident whilst driving and texting.
You will see in the picture how attractive the VR headset looks on me. My phone slips inside, and when the app is launched I found myself gazing up at the ceiling of a clinical looking room.
Text appeared in front of my eyes explaining to me that I had been in a car accident and the doctors do not think that I will survive. I could hear a medical beeping sound, then the text asks me to look both to my left and right.
When I look I see a covered body on either side of me, and then the beeping noise changes to a long unbroken sound, which indicates I have died!
I am told that the doctors could not save me or the passengers in the car that I collided with. I then find myself looking up from a coffin, and can hear crying and the following words appear:
The app was free, and was not very complex, but despite the reviews from the previous users, I think that it had good potential for raising awareness of death. I am sure we will be seeing a lot more of these style apps being developed. Perhaps you have an idea for one or are already developing one? Let me know if you are I might like to review it for you. I am going swimming now in my VR headset, I am off to explore the oceans!
